Ryde won their 1st game of the 2022 season by beating Tichborne Park by 1 wicket in a run fest at Harding Shute on Saturday (11th June).
Tichborne won the toss and elected to bat. Opener George Ayling smashed a career-best 154 for Tichborne, including 11 sixes and 11 fours. Ayling was eventually stumped by Oscar Vandecasteele off the bowling of Kerry Rice, having scored over half of Tichborne Park’s 304 all out – but this wasn’t enough to secure victory for the mainland side.
Ayling was upstaged by 16-year-old Oscar Vandecasteele, who struck an unbeaten 138 off 106 balls to sweep Ryde to a remarkable 1-wicket victory with 14 balls to spare. The teenager hit 2 6s and 13 4s, carefully shepherding Ryde from 227-8 and into a winning position. Ryde’s last 2 wickets added 78 runs to secure their first win of the season.
