28-year-old Violet Prichard, who attempted to drive from Freshwater to Ryde whilst more than twice the drink-drive limit, but crashed, has been banned from getting behind the wheel for 20 months.
Prichard, of Park Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to 1 count of drink driving when she appeared in front of Magistrates on Friday.
The court heard how the mum-of-3 had been watching the Euro Women’s football final in Freshwater on 1st August, whilst enjoying some drinks, but decided to drive home. She got as far as Forest Road on the outskirts of Newport before crashing her Peugeot 308 into a hedge at just before midnight.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, explained to the court that paramedics were called to the scene and treated Prichard at the roadside, where she was requested to complete a breathe test by Police – which she failed.
She later gave an evidential reading of 79 – over 2x the legal limit of 35.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client simply made a mistake of driving after consuming alcohol, on what was a rare evening out. He said that Prichard had recently returned to the Isle of Wight having previously fled from a abusive, unstable relationship.
The carer has invested in a push bike to enable her to keep her job.
Magistrates handed Violet Prichard a 20-month disqualification from driving, as well as ordering her to pay £85 costs, a fine of £225 and a £90 surcharge fee.
Simply a mistake? A choice you mean. You don’t mistakenly get in a car when your so drunk you crash into a hedge.
She should go straight to prison, just for watching that crap.

My parents didnt drink, and barely used the car they had because they couldn’t afford to, they worked hard to have the things in life, there were NO BENEFITS for having children at that time, you just worked it out for yourselves.

Blimey, how old are you then? Family allowances were paid by the Govt as far back as 1946, so benefits probably were available if you had children.
But they didn’t drink drive or risk losing their kids by their careless behaviour or at worst, risk killing someone innocent

Irrelevant. She was pissed. 3 kids by 28. Pushed them out quick. Where were they when she was getting drunk or being held in custody? Was she worried if they were OK. How would she feel if one of her kids were maimed or killed by a drunk driver? Just asking
