A Ryde man has admitted sending threatening and offensive messages to a long-time friend following a dispute over money.
Graham Lomax, 47, of Star Street in Ryde, admitted a single count of send letter/communication/article conveying indecent/offensive message when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week (Friday 19th March).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that in September 2024, Lomax – originally from Liverpool – moved in with a friend of 25-years after falling on hard times.
A row between the pair erupted after Lomax didn’t pay his way, despite promising his friend that he would.
Lomax left on the 18th September before returning to the address in Shanklin 7 days later when he was seen walking up and down the road outside the property whilst seemingly intoxicated. Lomax made attempts to apologise to his friend however they fell of deaf ears.
The court heard how he then texted the victim several threatening messages, calling him an ‘absolute turd’ and telling him ‘wait till I squeeze the life out of you’ and ‘enjoy your last intakes of breath’.
Lomax was initially offered a conditional caution however he didn’t comply and thus he was taken to court.
Defending himself, Lomax said that his life has turned around since the incident and that he was in the process of applying for a duo of jobs. He also added that he had no intention of contacting the victim again.
Magistrates opted to adjourn the case until the 26th May to allow a pre-sentence report to be compiled.

These freeloaders know who to vote for, otherwise if they vote
for a different party they might lose their benefits.
They ain’t that stupid.
Where does it say he got any money from the state? Always so much better to know the facts before sharing your opinions
It doesn’t, but how else would he be able to be walking up and down the road swilled up when he should have paid his mate who helped him out.
