Around 2000 homes in Ryde suffered a power cut overnight following what is believed to be some kind of small explosion at the main sub station off St John’s Road in the town.
At around 01:30 this morning (Sunday) Island Echo readers reported seeing a bright flash before the arrival of the emergency services – including the fire service – at the sub station near to St John’s Train Station.
Engineers worked overnight to restore power to those affected with some supplies restored by 02:30 and others by 04:00. All supplies were confirmed as restored by Southern and Scottish Energy at 05:45.
