Evolution Gym in Ryde will be open to all Isle of Wight residents free of charge on Christmas Day between 09:00 and 15:00, in a bid to support those who may find the festive season difficult or lonely.
The initiative has been organised by gym owner Matt Ward, who says he wants to provide a positive and welcoming space for people to come together, train, and feel supported on what can be a challenging day for many.
Matt Ward, Owner of Evolution Gym, has said:
“Christmas can be a tough time for a lot of people.
“Not everyone has family around them, and sometimes people just need somewhere to go – somewhere warm, friendly and positive. If a workout helps someone’s mental health, even a little, then this is absolutely worth doing.”
The Ryde-based gym, which recently introduced 24/7 access for members, will open its doors to adults aged 18 and over. No booking is required, but visitors who are not already members will be asked to complete a basic PAR-Q health form on arrival.
Guests are asked to train responsibly, refrain from consuming alcohol, keep noise to a minimum and re-rack weights after use.
While the event is especially aimed at those spending Christmas alone, Evolution Gym has made clear that anyone over 18 is welcome – whether to get a workout in or simply enjoy some company.
