A prolific thief who is already on an 18-month community order for theft has been charged with yet more offences having allegedly stolen over £575 worth of goods from shops in Ryde.
It is alleged that 39-year-old Warren Russell, of Green Street in Ryde, shoplifted at Co-op, Poundland, WH Smiths and Sainsbury’s in the town on dates between 4th September and 3rd December.
He was arrested on Monday (5th December) and subsequently charged.
Russell has been remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court later on today (Wednesday).

This would explain where the term cattle russellers came from.
Just one of life’s Chav lowlife, I watched 24 hours in Police Custody the other day & the chavs were trying to break into this man’s house & he chased them in his car & they crashed their stolen motorbikes but it was the victim ended up doing a prison sentence & his life was ruined, that made me feel totally disgusted that these idiots are not dealt with properly where is the deterrent ?
If you’re going to hurt or preferably kill a burglar you have to do it on your own property.
That way you have a good chance of self defense.
When they are leaving or running away they will no longer be considered a threat, that’s when you will be charged.
There’s a petition about that man and it was on Good Morning Britain, and a go fund me page set up, even a retired police officer didn’t agree with sentence.
Yes, a very sad outcome.
Can’t believe this Oakwood, the very ones who are allegedly supposed to be protecting US nick the victim because the scum crashed their bikes that they had stolen anyway? British laws are becoming more of an ass by the day thanks to the do-gooders. No wonder the country is inundated with lowlife, they know the law will protect THEM. ”Have faith in the law” I DON’T THINK SO. What happened to the two scum bags, set free to carry on robbing some other poor sod I suppose while they all claim free handouts.
Show his pic so retailers can spot him as he will just do it again to buy drugs ..
what a shame what a life
Let me guess, another sob story from his solicitor which the magistrates will believe and a slap on the wrist and a “don’t do it again”
Scum never change their ways
Another community order and a fine he won’t be able to pay pending.
They say shorter prison sentences don’t work. They might not have an impact on the offender who involved in a life of crime.
However, it does give the local community respite from the thievery, confrontation and intimidation of these thugs. Shopworkers have to deal with these people regularly. Some local shops can be heavily impacted by shoplifting and relief from the worst offenders for even a few months can make the difference between staying open and closing forever.
The shop workers aren’t well paid, and they really shouldn’t have to be subjected to the stress that shoplifters like him cause, they become victims too.
All we want for Christmas is the scum off the Isle of Wight!
That will be another community order then.
This guy hasn’t done a day’s work since leaving school. He costs us 3 times over. 1 with increased prices at shops to counteract thefts. 2 the time he spends in jail. 3 our dozy government has awarded him a 10% increase in his benefits. It would seem that crime really does pay
Most of the security cameras can be programed to do face recognition. So why do these stores
not use them to prevent the scum keeping going in and putting up our prices?
I am put in mind of the judge’s words at the start of Porridge.
You are a habitual criminal that sees prison as an occupational hazard.
Clearly our judiciary, like the floating bridge are not fit for purpose.
They are fit for purpose, but they have their hands tied behind their backs, sadly. All sentencing is governed by the ‘sentencing guidelines’.No matter how much we knw that a good stretch in jail is appropriate, magistrates have to follow the guidelines. If they don’t the defendant will have grounds for an appeal and that costs us all more money. Sad but true.
They are NOT fit for purpose, as time and time again we see career criminals who are already under a suspended sentence not jailed when they commit further offences. The island magistrates are a complete joke and as bad as the criminals themselves.
Obviously on benefits, get the council to re home him someplace on mainland, possibly where he is from…i
Never understand why people who do not follow the rules of this country still get state benefits ?. If you’re child misbehaves you might ground them ( prison) reduce or stop pocket money.
But no we just give more and more state help and attention whilst those in genuine need of financial help and attention and who follow the rules, who are kind and caring get nothing.
ban him from every shop, make him shop online then we can nick his parcels
No relation of mine !
What a stupid comment.
You should be on stage,
sweeping it.
soz, ment comment for liam, top of page.
Nice one Liam. Did you hear about the cowboy who wore paper shirt and trousers and chaps? He was arrested for rustling. Sorry, couldn’t resist it.
When this druggie dosser lived in lake he stole all day from virtually every shop, didn’t care if it was a small independent, same with Newport and now Ryde, always blames the drugs as a pathetic excuse, needs a good sentence now but that obviously won’t happen
So according to the LAW now, if you catch some lowlife waste of space scroat stealing your TV, you are supposed to ask him if he would like a lift home with it, and oh just a minute, I’ll get you the hand set and the instruction manual. Mustn’t upset the scum must we? They might feel left out.
Name and Shame him, post his photo in all shops and public places, he obviously stays at the Green St Salvation Army hostel, go a step further and let the public keep tabs on him.
