Motorists are facing rush hour delays as a result of a car overturning on Smallbrook Lane on the outskirts of Ryde this afternoon (Friday). The incident has involved a green hatchback, which has come to rest on its side between Smallbrook Roundabout and the railway bridge, near to Island Roads’ depot. It’s understood 3 males in the vehicle have managed to free themselves from the wreckage and appear to have escaped injury. Smallbrook Lane is open in both directions under give and take, but could close once emergency services arrive on scene. It’s thought the car was travelling towards Westridge when the crash occurred at 17:10. UPDATE @ 17:44 – 1 fire appliance from Ryde is now on scene in the interests of safety. Police have closed Smallbrook Lane to all traffic in both directions. Motorists should divert via St John’s Road and Ashey Road – or via Green Lane and Harding Shute. UPDATE – The road has now re-opened.
