Robbie Williams will be closing the Isle of Wight Festival this year but it won’t be his first trip to the Island, as seen in his 2001 music video for The Road to Mandalay.
Back at the start of the Millennium, Robbie took a trip to Fishbourne on the Wightlink ferry St Catherine for the music video The Road to Mandalay. In the video, he can be seen holding a cricket bat in the passenger lounge while his associates play golf on the car deck.
You can see a snippet of Island Life (thru a Lens) as he leaves the ferry at Fishbourne terminal. He is in the iconic British-made Jensen Interceptor and pulls a face at the camera before being magically transported to what looks like the south of France.
MV St Catherine has since left the Solent waters for sunny climes in Europe where she now works in Italy for the ferry company Delcomar.
Robbie had previously filmed another music video on the Island while with Take That – their video for I Found Heaven was filmed in Sandown in 1992.
He will be back on the Island Sunday week (18th June), bringing the curtain down on Seaclose Park for 2023.

That was a curious mixture of Wight and Malta and perhaps Gibraltar and any number of other locations….
