UPDATED: Emergency services including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are this afternoon (Tuesday) attending a reported three-car collision on Fairlee Road, Newport which has resulted in the closure of the main road.
Island Echo understand three vehicles have been involved in the incident – a blue BMW estate, a Silver VW Golf and a Silver Daihatsu Sirion – near to Island Harbour. Several police and ambulance units are in attendance.
A 3-year-old boy – who was traveling int the Daihatsu – has been left shaken in the incident, however no persons have been seriously injured.
The road has been closed from Coppins Bridge, Newport to the Racecourse Roundabout at Whippingham.
Southern Vectis Routes 5 & 9 will divert via Staplers Road until further notice with disruption to the timetable service expected.
UPDATED: The road reopened around 16:15, however traffic remains heavy in and around Newport including the Staplers Road area.
