UPDATED: The main road between Sandown and Newport has been closed this afternoon (Wednesday) following a single vehicle collision.
Emergency services including two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are currently in attendance at the incident on Newport Road, after being alerted to the collision at around 13:30.
One female is said to be unconscious in her vehicle, which is understood to have collided into the garden of a residential property near to the Honour and Jeffrey garden centre.
UPDATE @ 15:23 – One female, believed to be in her 50s, has been cut free from the wreckage of her vehicle by firefighters and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
Crews from Ryde and Shanklin have attended the incident.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, diverting via Victoria Avenue in Shanklin, Whitely Bank and Canteen Road to rejoin the A3056. Southern Vectis Route 8 services will also follow this diversion until further notice.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – Southern Vectis Routes 2, 3 and 8 are subject to delays of 20 minutes due to the road closure.
UPDATE @ 16:05 – The A3056 Newport Road has now fully reopened in both directions.
The female occupant of the vehicle is understood to have suffered minor injuries only.
