Newly appointed East Cowes Vics manager, Richie Woodburn, took on his first training session with the Island side this week ahead of their away match to Fawley this weekend.

Second-from-bottom Vics travel to 13th placed Fawley this Saturday for their Wessex League One fixture. Fawley have not won in 5 matches in the league, although they did win at Southern League Moneyfields in midweek in the Russell Coates Cup.

Speaking about his appointment to the East Cowes Side, Richie said:

“This is the only club I would consider getting involved with. Vics is where I started, and Vics is where I’ll finish.”

When asked how he evaluated his new team, Richie said:

“I am currently piecing the side together. We have a good core of lads. I consider Joe Butcher and Jimmi Burton to be the best strike force on the Island. We are not a bottom-of-the-table side.”

Richie said of his first fixture in charge.

“So far this season, we’ve conceded 39 goals and they’ve conceded 30. I expect this to be a high-scoring game.”

Vics’ tennants, Newport, currently lying in 9th position in Wessex League One, take on Follands Sports at Beatrice Avenue, after a series of postponed and abandoned home games. Port lost 0-1 at New Milton last Saturday to an injury time goal.

In the Wessex Premier, Cowes Sports, in 18th place, take on 17th placed Bournemouth in a crunch bottom-of-the-table fixture. The Yachtsmen have won only once so far in the league this season, and have lost their last 4.
