A retired Isle of Wight solicitor who crashed into a tree whilst 2.5x the drink-drive limit has been given a 22-month driving ban.
Adrian Whittle, 65, previously of Rowlands Lane in Havenstreet but now of Nelson Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to 1 charge of drink driving when he appeared in court on Friday.
The court heard that Whittle was driving along Albert Road in Sandown when he crashed into a tree at the junction with Victoria Road on 13th December last year.
Police were called to the scene and located Whittle behind the wheel of the Vauxhall Corsa. He had suffered a minor head injury resulting in paramedics being called to the scene.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that Whittle blew 87 at the roadside but the evidential result was taken in blood at the hospital – 205.
Whittle, who unsurprisingly represented himself in court, had no previous convictions.
Magistrates handed down a 22-month driving ban with a fine of £692. They also ordered costs of £85 and a £69 surcharge to be paid.

Why was he not banned totally?? Stupid idiot
He should do community service in a high vis jacket “convicted drink driver” planting trees. I hope the tree made a full recovery.
I agree, community service is the same what ever your station in society is. We should use community service more as fines are becoming irrelevant. Either they don’t get paid or are of no consequence.
Dunk drivers should be banned for life.
If your stupid enough to do it a second time and be caught i totally agree ..banned for life no excuses
Was the magistrate a member of his family?
Isn’t everyone on the Isle of Wight related?
Should be locked up and throw away the key
Wow that’s original…. yawn mate …no one condones drink drinking its pure stupidity .. but put a bit if effort into your comments…
