An application for a temporary refreshment kiosk at Red Funnel’s East Cowes Terminal is set to be considered by Isle of Wight Council planners.
The application, submitted by the Southampton Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited – which trades as Red Funnel – includes details of a small kiosk which would be placed in the operator’s marshalling yard during the summer months.
If approval is given, the kiosk would be put into position between the 2nd of May and the 30th of September each year for the next 3 years.
Positions for 2 full-time staff alongside 2 part-time staff would be created by the introduction of the new kiosk, which would open between 08:00 and 18:00 7 days a week – and later in Half Terms and School Holidays when passenger numbers rise.
The application’s cover letter reads:
“The building will be carefully positioned to enable easy access to visitors whilst maintaining existing travel paths into and out of the site.
“The proposed building would be proportionate in design and scale and would not adversely impact on the amenities of neighbouring property occupiers in the surrounding area.”
Comments on the application can be made via the Councils’ planning portal using reference number 21/01079/FUL.

They need to move the ticket box on the carpark to other side of road first to stop the traffic build up off floating bridge and blocking the pavement with artic lorries etc..
… Sod ya kiosk
Before even considering this, the council should force Red Funnel to build the new terminal that numerous people were forced out of their homes for, which they do not appear to have started yet. Of course, they never intended building it did they, it was just another disgusting land grab to park lorry trailers on.
Spot on Paul. We also lost the White Hart.
Not content with being among the worlds most expensive ferries they want to take as much money as possible before you even get on the boat.
