Red Funnel has been gearing up to transport thousands of festivalgoers to the Isle of Wight this weekend, with extra ferries added to the timetable to keep up with demand.
This year, the cross-Solent ferry company has been getting revellers in the festival spirit with DJs in both Southampton terminals, a body artist and hair braider. Food and drink stalls including the likes of Mermaid Gin, Dorset Food Co and Siren Craft Beer Bar have been offering a taste of the best local food and drink.
In both Southampton and Isle of Wight terminals, revellers are being welcomed with music and festival-themed décor, including displays of art and sculptures created by local Isle of Wight and Southampton schools.
To support the increased demand over the festival period, Red Funnel has added 12 additional sailings to its timetable.

Yipee, the smack heads are on the way.
Extra ferries when prices are high , strange how that happens ?????
Let’s hope essential crew don’t get sick !!!!!!!
I will wait and see !!!!!!
The islanders need a reliable transport infrastructure, not just for festivals and holiday season….
Amazing they can run extra ferries now but can’t run a normal service at any other time
Suddenly, no staff shortages, even though some will have taken leave to go to the festival!
Amazing. Not.
It’s a pity they are not as sympathetic towards patients travelling over for medical treatment, giving then maybe a nail bar, hair treatment or a little makeup make over , no of course not no profit in it for them . No support for islanders.
Managed to find the staff for the festival then, just us islanders have to put up with cancellations and delays!: Typical
Profit, Profit, Profit, Hey all the islanders will moan and groan, but we don’t care as are raking in the cash. Red Funnel needs to be investigated on all this pricing crap. Unfair to Islanders from the start.
People, it is time for a tunnel. I was well against it years ago when the ferrys operated a reliable service but i have seen the island decline in recent years becoming a dumping ground and everthing here is way over rated. I really find it sad that Red Funnel have done this mini festival rubbish. Solent freedom tunnel, lets make it happen
For goodness sake let’s not go that way again! Waste of both tie and money, don’t you think if a tunnel was possible it would have happened before! There’s no-where for it to land for a start! What we need is a non-privately owned SERVICE, not a passport to make a heap of money that goes anywhere except the Island
What a great idea. Nice to see the ferry people getting involved and how cool for travellers to be so welcomed? What a shame anything to do with ferries is always subject to negativity. My attitude has always been move if you’re reliant on working off-island. I lived and worked in Portsmouth for 16 years. At no time was it viable to travel to and fro. Now I’m ‘home’ I wouldn’t consider a mainland job, why would anyone?
Last time I got red funnel it was cool, good service, punctual, great coffee, and a good journey. I’ll be using them for a gig soon, not worried at all. Looking forward to it actually.
