Red Funnel has cancelled 2 of its evening sailings for this coming Wednesday due to what it is calling ‘essential maintenance’. The 20:15 vehicle ferry sailing from Southampton has been cancelled on 10th July, as has the 21:45 from East Cowes. It is unclear at this stage if there will be any further cancellations should work overrun. Furthermore, routine maintenance is being carried out to the company’s online booking system from 22:00 tonight (Tuesday). For approximately 1 hour it will not be possible to place bookings via the website or the Red Funnel app, however, self-service ticket machines at all terminals will operate as usual.

I remember a time when if there was an issue they would just swap the ferry out with the spare one. For both companies. In the early 2000’s had a few times. A message that due to a fault the sailing will be delayed for 10 minutes as they are swapping the boats over. Now, to save money, if a ferry gets a fault, just cancel it’s sailings. Job done, and as a bonus save on fuel costs. Profits over service. Since the 80’s governments have stiped all controls of business. It’s so bad now, you buy something and six months later it transpires to be unfit for purpose. Good luck with talking the company to court. If it cost less than 10k you will NOT get your legal costs back. And the company can just rename it self and escape.
Very true re costs… however, IME taking a clown to court doesn’t need to involve a solicitor and minor expenses are paid- i.e. witness expenses to attend. Seen it, done it 🙂

Oh dear Richard still no improvement here 95 days and counting. Never mind I heard if you get down to Red Funnel and wave a placard they will reduce your fare by 10p. Come on at least it is a start.
