UPDATED: RAPE INVESTIGATION IN RYDE AFTER WOMAN SERIOUSLY SEXUALLY ASSAULTED ON SATURDAY NIGHT

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was sexually assaulted in Ryde last night (Saturday).  Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received a report at around 23:20 that a woman had been seriously sexually assaulted in the town. Police responded to a local address to secure the scene, with a cordon remaining in place this afternoon as officers carry out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what has happened. It has been confirmed that a 25-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in police custody at Newport Police Station as investigations continue. Officers are supporting the alleged victim at this time. UPDATE – The 25-year-old suspect has been bailed – with conditions – until 11th May. Enquiries continue.
