pughelectionThe now former Council Leader David Pugh has today lost his seat at the Isle of Wight Council by just 10 votes as Richard Priest takes hold of Shanklin South.

The crowds cheered at Medina Leisure Centre this lunchtime as it was announced that Priest, an Independent, won with 629 votes against Conservative’s Pugh, who received a close 619 votes.

15 Conservative members, 15 Independent members, two UKIP members, two Labour members, one Liberal Democrat and five other/unknown have all been elected.

Previously, the council had been controlled by a 24-strong Conservative group, with nine Independents, four Liberal Democrats, one Labour member and two others.

The turnout this year was just 35.56%.
