Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service crews are tackling a property fire in Sandown this morning (Saturday).
5 appliances from Ryde, Shanklin and Ventnor – including the aerial ladder platform from Ryde -are on scene at Beachfield Road in the town, opposite the former Post Office.
The alarm was raised shortly before 09:10.
The road has been closed by police with motorists been diverted locally. Southern Vectis buses are also on diversion.
UPDATE @ 09:45 – Firefighters have got a hold of the situation and have extinguished the fire.
4 breathing apparatus, a main jet, hose reels jets and a safety jet have been utilised.
Positive pressure ventilation is now being used to clear smoke from the large, detached property.
2 more BA wearers have re-entered the property to conduct further checks for any hotspots.
Witnesses say that smoke was coming from all floors.
With the fire now out, crews are starting to stand down. The aerial ladder platform and Ryde’s 2nd pump are returning to station.
