A prolific thief with more than 28 previous convictions has been ordered to pay just under £45 in compensation after stealing meat from a shop in Sandown.
40-year-old Daniel David Kilshaw, currently of Broadway in Sandown, pleaded guilty to a single charge of theft when he appeared before Magistrates last week.
The court heard that Kilshaw had gone into the Co-Operative on Sandown High Street on 15th November and stole 2 gammon joints and packs of meat.
The crime wasn’t reported until Police happened to be in the shop on 18th November. The manager showed CCTV footage to the officers and Kilshaw was quickly identified.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that Daniel had been doing well at accommodation in Southampton but had lost his place after relapsing into the use of Class A drugs. He said that his client has since moved back to the Island and is staying with a friend in Sandown.
Probation painted a negative view of the situation saying that things were in a ‘sorry state’ as Kilshaw had not been engaging with services. The probation report said that the 40-year-old is associating with known drug dealers and has been charged with 2 offences since 5th November alone.
Magistrates ordered Daniel Kilshaw to pay £43.75 compensation.

£43.75 compensation. The cost of the meat. Thats like having credit, steal now pay later.
Better than credit… Steal now – maybe pay later if you get caught! Where’s the deterrent?
Even better than that. Pay it back in £1 weekly instalments over the next year, interest free.
give up on the joker- just leave him to rot in the gutter, where he has put himself, by his own actions.
As low life are housed for free, have their council tax paid, have money given to them in benefits, have additional income via drug deals, get all their health care for free, you would assume they could pay for their food.
Yet, because too much is given, they now truly feel the world owes them a living.
Need a caravan park built on the stie of the tip and make all the low life work sorting rubbish for beneifts
But they, and we all know they will just be given ever more and we will pay for it all.
Chop hi Hands off ,,, simple
So we go and steal and all that happens is that we pay the cost of the product if caught.
As long as you play the poor old me line. These magistrates are a joke and should be replaced.
round and round you go Dan. guess there really is no helping some people is there. have fun killing urself with that sh@T you idiot!
Im not sure I can even call this person a man because he hasnt grown up from being a confused little boy. He has always been a low-life scumbag & will never change. He continuously breaks the law & then is allowed to repeat his actions over & over again.
What baffles me is that he still carried a knife round with him most of the time & years ago he stabbed a very good friend of mine in the back whilst walking off the floating bridge. The little boy still thinks he is something special by shouting abuse at people in the streets & then cowardly runs off & hides when someone actually tells him to grow up & shut up. Send the p###k back to prison
