Firefighters from Cowes, Newport and Ryde have responded to a prison cell fire at HMP Isle of Wight tonight (Friday).
3 appliances were mobilised to the Albany site of the Newport prison at just before 21:00 following reports of a fire within a prisoner’s cell.
It is understood the fire was out upon arrival of crews, who were quickly stood down. They have since returned to station.
The news comes as up to 600 prisoners at HMP Birmingham continue to riot, taking control of parts of the establishment.
