A brand new yoga studio established in a former rural church will welcome its first guests this evening (Monday). It was 2 months ago that Island Echo reported on plans to transform the former St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Rectory Road, Niton into a yoga studio – from praising God to downward dog. The church has been empty for almost 15 years and has been on the open market for some 9 years. Now, with planning permission granted by the Isle of Wight Council, the studio will host its first class later on today. The community space will also be used for events in the future. Emma McGillivray of Em’s Yoga, says:
“Bringing life back to this village asset has been the talk of the local community for the last few months, and everyone seems very pleased with the improved street scene. “I have always strived to make yoga accessible to everyone. Yoga is not determined by age, body shape or ability, anyone can enjoy the benefits of yoga”.
