Over 400 homes in the Rookley, Merstone, Godshill and Blackwater areas were without power overnight after lightning struck a substation in the area.
Engineers from Southern and Scottish Energy have been working through the early hours to restore power to those affected, bringing electricity supplies back on by 06:00 to the majority of customers by rerouting power through the network. A further 50 properties were reconnected before 08:00.
Work remains ongoing this morning to make repairs to restore supplies to 15 customers who remain without electricity. It is believed a lightning bolt struck the sub station in Rookley at around 02:00..
This lastest strike comes just 13 hours after a bungalow was struck by lightning in St Helens, causing a roof fire.
Southern and Scottish Energy would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.
