UPDATED: Around 1700 residents and businesses in Cowes and surrounding areas are without electricity this afternoon following a high-voltage network fault.
Power was lost to properties in Cowes, Northwood and some areas of Newport shortly before 12:15 this lunchtime (Sunday).
This latest incident comes after 1700 homes were also effected on Friday with a similar technical problem.
Traffic lights at Stag Lane and Northwood have also been effected, which is causing small delays in both locations.
Scottish and Southern Energy say engineers are carrying out initial investigations and that further updates are to follow.
UPDATE @ 14:30 – A spokesperson for SSE has said that the company are aiming to have power back on in the Cowes, Northwood and Newport areas by 15:00 this afternoon. Generators are being used.
UPDATE @ 09:20 MONDAY – A electricity pylon fire has been revealed as the cause of the power outage, which lasted around 4 hours yesterday.
Power had to be cut off to allow the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to safely fight the blaze in a field near to the Cowes-Newport cycle track.
