UPDATED: Over 20 businesses in Newport High Street have been affected by a power cut this morning (Thursday) with many closing their doors for the day.
At 08:35 this morning a network fault hit the PO30 region resulting in a number of businesses in the High Street to lose power. The affected postcodes are PO30 1TJ, 1UX, 1XA, 5ET and 5HE.
Engineers from Southern and Scottish Energy are working to restore supplies, however it is anticipated that power won’t return until 18:00 this evening meaning a whole trading day has been lost.
It was originally thought the fault was at a sub station on Post Office Lane, however the fault has been discovered to be more in depth.
