More than 250 homes in the villages of Chillerton and Gatcombe are without power tonight – and it could be several hours until supplies are restored.
A total of 34 postcodes in the PO30 3 region have been hit by the outage, which in total is affecting 263 properties in the rural area south of Newport.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are aware of the underground fault, which occurred just before 21:25.
It is currently estimated that power will be restored to all customers by 02:30 tomorrow morning.
