UPDATED: Residents in the Cowes area are without power this afternoon (Friday) following a power outage in the town.
This latest incident follows a number of issues in the town over the past couple of months, which has seen thousands of properties effected by a lack of electricity supply for short periods of time.
The power cut is understood to be effecting the Cowes, Gurnard and Merton areas and hit just before 15:15.
UPDATE @ 15:52 – 500 customers remain without power this afternoon after a safety trip switch activated on a high voltage network.
Some 1300 properties were initially without power, however SSE eengineers have carried out a procedure called ‘swtiching’ which switches different parts of the network to identify the fault. This has been successful so far, reconnecting some 800 customers.
A SSE spokesperson has confirmed there have been no damage reports and it is hoped that all 1300 customers in the Cowes area will be reconnected shortly.
