The former Ponda Rosa restaurant at Ashey on the outskirts of Ryde could be demolished to make way for 5 houses and 2 holiday homes, it has been revealed.
Planning permission is being sought by the site’s owner, Ben Leal, to demolish the former restaurant building and function room in order to make way for 5 dwellings, made up of 3x 2-bedroom homes and 2x 3-bedroom homes.
Furthermore, the application seeks to develop 2 self-contained holiday homes consisting of 4 bedrooms each in the car park area opposite.
There are already 30 other properties at the brownfield site off Ashey Road, which planning consultant Andrew White says makes the proposed redevelopment the optimum scheme for the site.
Planning documents state that the applicants believe the development would have a positive impact on the rural character of the area through the sensitive redevelopment of the existing buildings, which will otherwise remain empty and vulnerable to vandalism.
The Ponda Rosa closed down in 2017 and has since become dilapidated and is seen as an eyesore.
Locals have until 11th February 2022 to comment on the plans, with a decision set to be made by the Isle of Wight Council in March.

This place used to kept lovely years ago and had good trade. Look at it now in its sorry, run down state. Probably the best thing to demolish. Yet another building fallen into disrepair.
Yep, sounds to me like you are describing the whole island.
YES IT WAS A GOOD PLACE TO MEET I HAVE MET THERE WITH OTHERS AND HAD A GOOD TIME, BUT WE NEED TO MOVE ON AND IT DOES LOOK BAD, LETS GET IT DEMOLISED BEFORE IT GOES UP IN SMOKE AND OURB LOVELY FIRE BRIGADE HAVE TO RISK THERE LIVES PUTTING OUT. YES GO AHEAD ANS GET RID,
I’d normally support this kind of thing but knowing the history of this place and one of the locals involved it screams out drugs and fraud… crime don’t pay eh
