UPDATED: Police are this evening searching for a missing elderly woman from Alverstone who suffers from Alzheimer’s and has not been seen for at least three hours.
The National Police Air Support helicopter is currently assisting in the search, circling over the Sandown and Alverstone areas of the East Wight.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are on foot conducting an area search.
UPDATE – The vulnerable lady, Helge Stringer, 76, is described as having mid-length hair and wearing glasses. She was last seen wearing a grey coat and red top and is said to be unsteady on her feet.
WightSAR have been deployed to assist in the search.

UPDATE @ 23:00 – Hampshire Search and Rescue have this evening been placed on standby to assist in the search. Mrs Stringer remains missing tonight.
UPDATE @ 06:45 – The search for Mrs Stringer continues this morning (Friday) as concerns grow for her welfare. She hasn’t been seen for over 12 hours.
Hants SAR deployed teams to the Island in the early hours to assist in the search.
UPDATE @ 09:48 – Helge Stringer has been found alive and well by search teams this morning, bringing an end to the 14-hour search for her.
Mrs Stringer was found at around 09:25 in Alverstone by a member of the public. She has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment for what is believed to be minor injuries.
