VIDEO: Armed police officers and several other police units have this afternoon (Saturday) attended a property off of Blackgang Road near Chale.
Police were called to the scene at around 15:10 prompting over seven police vehicles to rush to a property on the Public Footpath C10 – between Chale and Blackgang Chine – just off of the A3055 Blythe Shute.
It is currently unclear as to the specifics of the incident, however Island Echo has learnt that nearby residents were asked to leave their properties by officers to move to a place of safety.
It is understood there are a number of caravans situated behind the properties on this stretch of pathway.
UPDATE TUESDAY: Hampshire Constabulary have today confirmed that Daniel Layton, 31 of Worcester Road in Newport was arrested at the scene of a ‘disturbance’ and has subsequently been charged with several offences, however they have been unable to confirm the specific details of the offences.
Island Echo understands that threats to life were made prompting the emergency response. It has been confirmed armed Police officers did attend the incident, a rare occurrence on the Isle of Wight.
Mr Layton has been bailed after appearing in front of magistrates court yesterday (Monday) and will return on 18th March.
