UPDATED: The identity of a motorcyclist who died following an incident in Binstead on Sunday has been revealed this morning (Tuesday).
Kenneth Mead, 59 of Parkway in Binstead was involved in a road traffic incident on Binstead Main Road shortly after 16:10 on Sunday. It is believed he suffered a medical episode whilst in control of his scooter – slowing down, losing control and colliding with a post at the side of the road.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended the scene before Kenneth was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance with a Police escort. Despite the best efforts of emergency crews, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at hospital.
Island Echo understands Mr Mead was a bus driver for Southern Vectis, particularly on the school bus services.
The road remained closed for 4 hours whilst investigators from the mainland examined the scene.

“We are very sorry to hear that Ken Mead has died. He was a valued member of our team here at Southern Vectis as a driver, most recently between August 2010 and March 2013. Those who worked with Ken remember him with great fondness and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time”.
