UPDATED: Police are this evening (Wednesday) investigating an assault on a teenage boy in Oakfield in which a baseball bat was used, according to witnesses.
Eye witnesses have described the shocking moment a woman got out of a car and wielding a baseball bat, assaulted the teenager at the junction of Harding Road and High Street in Oakfield, Ryde at around 16:30.
Ambulance crews were called to the scene and placing the male on a stretcher, paramedics raced him to St Mary’s Hospital. It is understood the ambulance received a Police escort.
It is believed an earlier incident in the local play park involving the assault victim and another child sparked the assault by the woman, who is now being sought in relation to this incident.
The area has been cordoned off and Scenes of Crime officers are due to arrive to carry out a forensic investigation of the scene.
A CCTV camera is operated and working directly above the incident scene.
UPDATE THURSDAY: Police have this morning confirmed that one person has been arrested and remains in Police custody following yesterday’s assault.
The 16-year-old victim, who Island Echo are not naming, was knocked unconscious in the assault and remains in hospital today.
