UPDATED: A section of St Boniface Down has been closed due to a Police incident this afternoon (Monday).
Two fire appliances from Newport and Ventnor were called to an area near the NATS comms station at around 14:30, however have since stood down. Two fire service officers were also mobilised to the scene.
The National Trust Warden has blocked access to the far end car park where Police are still in attendance.
Police are understood to have responded to the scene at around 14:10.
UPDATE @ 16:20 – A body has been discovered on St Boniface Down, it has been confirmed.
A private ambulance has arrived to remove the deceased, who is understood to have been found in a vehicle parked in a car park.
Island Echo understands the car may have been there for 2 days.
UPDATE @ 20:05 – The vehicle, a Skoda, has been recovered from the beauty spot by Stag Lane Motors.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death has been launched, however it is not thought the death is being treated as suspicious.
Island Echo understands the deceased to be male.
UPDATE TUESDAY: Hampshire Constabulary have this morning confirmed that the body of a male was discovered in car on St Boniface Down yesterday afternoon.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Island’s coroner.
Detectives are now appealing for a dog walker who discovered the body in the vehicle to come forward.
A gentleman reported the find to the National Trust Warden at around 13:30 but unfortunately left without leaving his details.
