Police are appealing for a suspect to come forward, as well as any witnesses, after a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in an alleyway in Newport. It’s said that on the evening of Monday 29th January, the teenage girl was approached at Downside Playing Fields on Pan Estate by a man she did not know. He offered to walk her home. Then, at around 20:50, the 17-year-old was sexually assaulted by the man in a nearby alleyway. The male – who remains at large – is described as white, slim, tall, softly spoken, with dark curly hair and wearing black clothing. Officers were made aware of the incident by a third party around 24 hours later. Since then, they have been scoping out CCTV in the area and have spoken to the victim. Now, over a week later, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is appealing for witnesses to come forward. Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything or saw a man matching the above description in the area at the time. The suspect is also being urged to come forward to speak to Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44240044263. You can also submit information online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
