UPDATED: Police cordoned off a main road in Sandown this morning after a man was found in the road with serious head injuries.
Officers closed Avenue Road between Fort Street and the High Street, with an inner cordon in place near to the Wight Montrene Hotel, after the unnamed man was found by a member of the public at 05:30.
Paramedics rushed the gentleman to St Mary’s Hospital suffering from head injuries, which are not being treated as life-threatening.
Despite the road closure, the incident is not being treated as suspicious and there is not to be any further investigation.
Southern Vectis Routes 2 and 3 were diverted locally via The Broadway and Victoria Avenue.
The road reopened around 11:30.
UPDATE FRIDAY: Island Echo understands the gentleman found on Wednesday morning is a local homeless man, who has since been discharged from hospital.
