UPDATED: Police have this morning (Saturday) cordoned off a shopping area in Newport where a substantial amount of blood has been found.
Gray’s Walk, situated between Pyle Street and Scarrots Lane, has been closed to both members of the public and shop owners following the discovery of a large amount of blood and damage to the window of an antique shop.
Eye witnesses at the scene have said the blood continues down towards St James’ Square. Reports indicate a male has been located on the other side of town with injuries to his leg.
UPDATE: Police have now confirmed a male has been arrested following a burglary at an antiques shop, which was reported at around 07:00 this morning.
The trail of blood was followed by officers which led to the suspect, who was then taken to hospital with leg injuries – a suspected broken leg.
Areas of Newport High Street have also been cordoned off due to the blood trail. Witnesses have reported seeing a hammer on the floor.
