UPDATED: Police are tonight (Friday) conducting an aerial search using the National Police Air Support helicopter in both the East and West Wight areas.
At around 21:30 the Police helicopter began circling Freshwater, before travelling across the Island to Culver Down near Sandown to then conduct a coastal sweep towards Shanklin. The helicopter has since returned to Freshwater.
Island Echo understands Hampshire Constabulary are searching for a missing person who they have concerns about. It is reported there is a Police presence in the Victoria Road and Camp Road area of Freshwater, close to where the helicopter has conducted its search.
An appeal for information is yet to be launched and the Island’s search and rescue organisation, WightSAR, have not been deployed.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 01:30 – It has been confirmed that the helicopter search was carried out for a missing person, however further information has not yet been made available.
