UPDATED: A Police pursuit through the streets of Ryde has resulted in an aerial search by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter this morning (Sunday).

Officers from the Joint Operations Unit were seen to be in pursuit of a vehicle through Swanmore, Ashey and Elmfield at around 10:00.

The NPAS helicopter from Bournemouth is now circling in the skies above Elmfield and Oakfield in the search for the driver of the vehicle, who is thought to have dumped the car and fled.

UPDATE @ 11:55 – The search for the driver of a silver Hyundai Coupe has now been called off.

Despite a helicopter search and officers on the ground flooding the immediate area, the male suspect has not been caught and detained.

The man, who decamped from the vehicle in a residential car park at Sutton Close, has been described by witnesses as having one arm and wearing a green t-shirt.

Thankfully no members of the public have been injured as a result of the pursuit, although the suspect vehicle almost collided head on with a Police car at Smallbrook Lane.

The vehicle has been seized and is being recovered.
