A planning application has been submitted to Isle of Wight Council seeking permission to create 3 disabled parking bays at Waterside Pool on Esplanade, Ryde.
The application, lodged by Waterside Community Trust relates to the creation of 3 defined accessible parking spaces on land currently used as an undefined gravel parking area beside Café de Ryde.
If approved, the scheme would formalise the existing informal parking arrangement and introduce 3 designated disability spaces, while retaining 4 standard car parking spaces already present on site.
According to the submitted Design and Access Statement, the new bays are intended to provide on-site parking for those with accessibility issues. The facility currently has no dedicated accessible parking provision, with users relying on nearby public car parks.
Access to the bays would remain via the existing access road from Esplanade Road, turning onto North Walk and into the Waterside Pool site. No new vehicular or pedestrian access points are proposed.
The Isle of Wight Council are due to take a decision by 13th April, with public consultation running until 20th March.

There are already disabled bays along the front adjacent to the pool.
Yes , but try going down the steps in a wheelchair, or having to stagger round on crutches. Why do people find issue with people who can’t mobilise? It could happen to any one of us. I’m glad it’s not me.
That’s why there are slopes at both end.
because able bodied people also have a right to be close to the door to park as well – able bodied people are getting fed up with paying more for the same services and then not being able to park next to the event or organisation
able bodied discrimination on pricing and parking is getting worse
That is very true, some people are nasty numpties.
Some extra spaces will be ideal for those needing
parking spaces.
With all the illegal parking that takes place on
the island on a daily basis, nothing wrong
with some legal parking for a change.
