Planning permission for a brand new skate park in Freshwater has been granted, bringing the West Wight community one step closer to enjoying a new facility and community space for people of all ages. With planning permission now secured, the next goal is to raise the necessary funds to turn the exciting plans into reality. A GoFundMe page has been set up with a target amount of £120,000 – https://www.gofundme.com/f/freshwater-skatepark-pumptrack. Islanders are being encouraged to donate and participate in upcoming fundraising events, with an emphasis that every contribution, big or small, brings the park ever closer.
A spokesperson for Freshwater Parish Council has said:
“We would like to express a heartfelt thankyou to everyone involved. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of numerous individuals and organisations. We extend our deepest gratitude. Your voices and support have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. “We will maintain active engagement with local residents to ensure that the skatepark project advances in a manner that benefits the entire community”.
Businesses and individuals wishing to leave a lasting legacy are being invited to sponsor the park. For more information contact 01983 752 000 or email [email protected].

Backhanders springs to mind.
The people of Freshwater did not want to pay for this from their council tax precepts.
The people of Freshwater living in the area did not want this monstrosity built near them.
There were hundreds of objections even from Sports England who said they can’t build on a football pitch.
Local residents were concerned about the flooding and noise and anti social behaviour plus drug dealing which happens already at the old skate park including fires and graffiti.
The Parish Council spent tens of thousands last year on CCTV on the old skate park to try and address this, what a waste of money.!
Freshwater PC ignored the views of their own people, what a disgraceful bunch of wannabees.
Totland pc is just as bad,ran by old freemasons and dyed in the wool tories, precept hike of 60% which nobody asked for,all so they could buy the church hall, then build a house in the rear of it for profit, which will disappear conveniently
apparently there was a consultation on it,which nobody saw!
‘People of all ages’
I really see the old folk of freshwater being welcomed there by the feral youth dealing drugs and intent on vandalising it.
The only thing welcomed will be their hard earned £s to build it.
If the children want it, let them pay for it, after all we ‘pay’ them to go to school (EMA) ffs!
Freshwater does not need this, or anymore bloody housing either.
Dreadful idea.
Ahhh, the drug dealer will be rubbing his hands in glee at new customers,as he already drops drugs at the toilets next to it,its well known, and the police do feck all, despite being reported lots of times!
What a waste of time and money. Will be vandalised and destroyed before the end of the first year. Rather than telling everyone what they’re getting, ask what they want instead. Seriousply though, who skates anymore?
Another no go area in Freshwater coming up, waste of time and resources. Plenty of open spaces for those wanting to skate and keep out of trouble.
Where is this going to be, so I can avoid it?
From what I’ve been told Freshwater Parish Council are for all intentions virtually bankrupt. So where are they planning on getting the maintenance costs covered by? I think this is an excellent opportunity for some of the kids to be able to play in a safe area. I do however feel that those 8 local yobs will put a stop to that as soon as they possibly can. If CCTV is being installed maybe the “facial recognition software” could be installed too? Then only used as evidence when the guaranteed damage has occurred from these yobos.
Boomers moan all the time about kids hanging about with nothing to do or places to go and getting into trouble. Someone tries to build a place so they do have a place to be. And boomers moan about that too. Make your minds up boomers. Also, it was the Tories the closed all the youth clubs. Maybe if they were still open we would not have all these issues.
All the make-believe issues they talk about, none of that happens with the two I know of in Ryde. They are safe places for children to play in full view so no pervert can get attack them.
Well said Fred. The comments from the usual suspects are depressingly cliche and predictable
