Westridge Golf Club has crowned its 2025 Men’s Champions, with Martyn Phillips taking the Scratch title and Pete Holton lifting the Handicap crown after 2 closely contested days of golf.
The annual championship was played across Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September in largely calm conditions, though drizzle briefly interrupted play on Day 2.
In the Scratch competition, Phillips laid down an early marker with a round of 72 on Saturday to lead by 3 from Kim Meguyer and Mark Royl (both 75). He pushed on in the final round, stretching his advantage to take the title by a commanding 8 shots with a 2-round total of 142. A strong Sunday charge saw Shay Phillipson climb into 2nd on 150, edging out Zane Cohen and Royl on countback.
The Handicap competition proved much tighter. In-form Holton led after day one with a superb net 65, closely followed by Phillips and former champion Peter Dixcey (both 66). With only 3 shots covering the top 11, it was all to play for on the final day. Holton held his nerve to card a net 129 overall and secure his first Westridge title. Phillips finished 1 back on 130, with Dixcey 3rd on 131. Meguyer retained 4th on 133, while Phillipson and 2022 champion Phil Brennan both surged on day two to tie for 5th on 134.
