Firefighters have responded to a vehicle fire on the forecourt of Tesco Petrol Station in Ryde this morning (Thursday), which has resulted in the closure of the busy fuel stop.
It was just before 10:40 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the developing situation off Brading Road.
It appears that a silver VW Sharan – occupied by a male and female – caught fire as it pulled into the petrol station.
Thankfully, the car was clear of the pumps at the time, and the engine bay was quickly doused with a foam extinguisher.
Wholetime firefighters from Ryde are now ensuring the fire has been completely extinguished using a thermal imaging camera.
Tesco Petrol Station remains closed to all motorists.
