PERSON TRAPPED IN MUD

Fire crews are responding to a 999 call this lunchtime to reports of a person stuck in mud near to Fort Victoria, Yarmouth.

The specialist mud rescue unit was tasked from Newport Fire Station shortly after 11:15 this morning.

This is the second call to the area recently for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, who rescued a 13-year-old girl from a similar sticky situation only weeks ago.

UPDATED: A 65-year-old woman has been freed from the mud and has been transferred to an awaiting ambulance, however has not been taken to hospital.
