Niton-based Pepperpot Players are staging one of the most ambitious productions in their 50-year history at the end of the month. The group is putting on 5 short plays under the umbrella title of Two’s Company, on 30th/31st August, plus a matinee on Sunday 1st September. Each play has a cast of 2 people and requires a quick scene change – always a challenge on the tiny stage at Niton Village Hall! But director Steve Watts has a cunning plan. He says:
“We’ve worked out how we can store the sets we need behind movable screens, so we think that by the time I’ve introduced the next play, we’ll be ready to go. It’s going to be fast and furious – and rather cosy backstage for our performers! “We normally pick one play and present that, but we decided to try something new this year. We think the audience will love being a fly on the wall as these conversations take place. There will be lots to laugh about, but there are also some tough and tender moments, just like real life”.
The 5 plays let the audience eavesdrop on a range of conversations: a blind date in a pub; a tense showdown between mother and daughter; gossip between 2 avid ballroom dancers; a life changing chat between 2 people on the same coach trip to Eastbourne; and a confrontation between management and union in the boss’s office. Tickets cost £7.50 (with no booking fees) via ticketsource.co.uk/pepperpots, or by calling 0333 666 3366.
