pennyfeathersThe Isle of Wight Council Planning Committee last night (Tuesday) refused the Pennyfeathers development application for the outskirts of Ryde.

It was proposed that 904 homes, a school, dentist, doctors surgery and new commercial units – among other beneficial aspects – would be developed on land between Smallbrook Lane and Brading Road, however, an unanimous decision was made to refuse the application.

Concerns were raised by local residents that the dated sewage and water systems would not be able to cope with the increase in properties, however Southern Water have confirmed that they would undertake a scheme to improve the sewage systems should such a development take place.
