A car has smashed into and shunted a large commercial skip on the road leading in and out of St Helens this lunchtime (Monday).
The elderly occupants of the Honda Jazz are currently being assessed by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service as a result of the road traffic collision, which occurred at around midday.
An ambulance crew and critical care paramedics are on scene, alongside Police.
It is understood the driver of the Jazz was travelling away from the village of St Helens when they crashed into the corner of the roll-on, roll-off skip, which had been dropped at the roadside by local firm Reynolds & Read.
The force of the impact has not only caused front end damage to the car, but has shifted the grey skip towards the pavement too.
Carpenters Road remains open under direction, with no delays.
UPDATE @ 13:50 – Police have confirmed that a woman in her 70s sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Time to hand in the licence.
This is exactly the reason why old people should have regular eye tests
and also take a new driving test every five years
Yes buttercup, maybe a lot of young loons do too that override red lights and cut up people on junctions and round a bouts and do well over the speed limit witnessed too many times .
Maybe they need a physcology test and take a new driving test every year .
Don’t make assumptions around age . That works both ways .
But this afticle is not about anyone else, it is about an elderly couple crashing into a very large and easily visible object. It may have had nothing to do with eyesight anyway, the driver may have had a medical episode, who can say? It is unhelpful to conflate competence which has diminished due to aging with bad driving. But I really don’t understand the reluctance of older people to have their health and suitability to drive re-assessed. If you are safe to drive then you wil retain your licence. If you are not then it is right that your licence is revoked.
I trust older drivers all day long.
Youngsters speed, jump traffic lights, don’t
give way at roundabouts and drive using phones.
Not to mention driving under the influence.
Majority of older drivers “don’t” do that!
You must be joking most old drivers don.t even know what lane to be in at a roundabout
Well said. However, meanwhile, was the skip properly authorised and coned off? Oh and did the police get the driver to read a numberplate at the required distance?
Two scum drivers over took me and two busses that were signaling right, to pull out of a bus stop, so STFU about older drivers. Scum drivers should have random road side tests for snort and swill and checks for legal insurance over their pop banging shit heap cars
Here Here
I would compulsory buy ST vehicles off numpties
and have them crushed!
Speeding kills
Well said.
Should have gone to specsavers a long time ago maybe….
Was the skip legally allowed on the public highway??
Can’t see no traffic cones, nor safety warning signs…. but they might just be out of view.
I was under the impression you have to get permission to put a skip on the public highway.
AFAIK, only if on the public highway after darkness/overnight
Cockrobin and Willow need to return to education and swot up on their grammar! There are entirely too many arrogant, elderly driver’s on this Island.
More traffic police are needed for them AND the idiot young (mainly men) driver’s! Also, we have MOT garage’s that are giving out dodgy ‘passes’.
You criticise other people’s grammar, yet use apostrophes incorrectly three times in quick succession. Quite ironic really.
Appalling. And as for the nonsense about men drivers. Dear, oh dear
Probably no warning cones
Should be off the road.
Definitely driving too slow for that road, you just have to look at the damage to see that
