Plans have been submitted to convert the former HSS Hire branch in Newport into a showroom and warehouse for Ornamental Plastics Co., a trading arm of Isle of Wight-based Roofstore P&P Ltd.
The premises at 12 Parkhurst Road – near the top of Hunnyhill and Medina Way – has been vacant since national tool hire firm HSS closed its Isle of Wight branch in December 2024, following over 25 years of operation.
A full planning application lodged with the Isle of Wight Council this week proposes to change the use of the building to allow both storage/distribution (Class B8) and retail use (Class E). The scheme also includes external alterations such as new signage and bi-fold sliding doors.
Ornamental Plastics Co. currently operates from within the Roofstore building on Riverway, but the new Parkhurst Road site will act as a standalone showroom and sales counter.
The Isle of Wight company specialises in products such as wall panels, acoustic and shower panels, skirtings, covings, balustrades, cladding, composite decking and fencing.
3 full-time staff members are expected to be employed at the site, which will operate 07:30-17:00 Monday to Friday, and 08:00-16:00 on Saturdays.
A decision on 25/01664/FUL) is expected to be delivered by the Isle of Wight Council by 12th January 2026.
