Residents at Orchard House Care Home recently came together to celebrate the Chinese New Year, welcoming the Year of the Horse with a creative and joyful afternoon.
Residents enjoyed making traditional Chinese lanterns. The activity encouraged creativity and connection, with each resident adding their own personal style to the vibrant decorations.
To complement the theme, residents also sampled a selection of Chinese snacks, including spring rolls and prawn bites, creating a relaxed and sociable atmosphere filled with laughter and shared moments.
The handcrafted lanterns are now proudly displayed at the home’s entrance on a special illuminated lantern tree, offering a warm and colourful welcome to visitors and families.
Katie Schlepp, Head of Lifestyle at Orchard House, said:
“Celebrating different cultures is something we truly value at Orchard House. Moments like this bring people together, spark creativity, and create lasting memories for our residents. Seeing the lanterns now lighting up our entrance makes it even more special.”
Residents also enjoyed learning about traditional Chinese New Year customs including the light-hearted belief that today you shouldn’t wash your hair, take out the rubbish, or do laundry, as it may wash away good luck. While taken with a smile, it certainly added to the fun of the day.
Orchard House continues to host a wide variety of themed events and cultural celebrations as part of its commitment to enriching residents’ lives and creating meaningful daily experiences.
