Orchard House was very pleased to welcome Tracy Dove from Zoologica into the home for World Animal Day on Monday (4th October).
Zoologica is a new company run by Tracy Dove who has over 15 years’ experience as a zoologist. Her aim is to connect people of all ages to the natural world through inspirational educational experiences that elicit awe and wonder for wildlife and wild places.
Tracy gave a wonderful talk to residents about polar bears, Tawny owls, Tigers and Lemurs. Residents enjoyed all the resources that Tracy brought with her, such as a length of ribbon to show how long a tiger was, and a huge polar bear paw print to measure up against their hands.
Residents were spellbound by Tracy’s amusing and interactive talk and liked looking at all the photographs of the animals she talked about. She told them all about how different countries are implementing their conservation programmes.
Resident, Lillian, said:
“It was a very interesting talk, I learned that polar bear fur is actually black, which I still can’t get my head around!”
General Manager, Kim Fleming, said:
“It’s always nice to welcome visitors to the Home, especially when it enriches the lives of our residents, as this talk did. We offer a varied programme of activities which caters to all of our resident’s interests and wishes.”
Head of Lifestyle, Debbie Webb, said:
“The residents absolutely loved Tracy’s talk, they learned lots of facts and had good fun. Tracy pitched her demonstration exactly right and I’m sure we shall have her back in the future.”
