Newport Quay, from Riverside Centre to Sea Street, has been made one-way with access to The Quay & the Vaccination Centre at the Riverside Centre being gained from Fairlee Road/Seaclose Park only.
The restriction is for safety, and to prevent network congestion with traffic accessing the Vaccination Centre which opened this morning at the Riverside Centre.
The diversion will affect these streets: Sea Street, High Street, coppins Bridge, Snooks Hill, Fairlee Road, Seaclose Park Road and Newport Quay.
Diversion route(s) will be signed.
The barrier at Seaclose Park outside Premier Inn Hotel has been lifted allowing access.
From 00:00 hours on 1st February 2021, for a maximum period of twenty-one days.

That map is as about as clear as mud. Is Fairlee Road being made ‘one way’ ? If it is, why has Cross Lane got arrows in the same direction ? I can understand the need to make The Quay one way but its completely unnecessary to change anything else

In total agreement JHVF more arrows in all directions over use of signs. Unbelievable!! If you don’t get lost it will be a miracle!!!
I just hope that Fairlee Road will be signed, because I have never seen a sign saying Fairlee Road.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder, the entire world’s population could fit within the 500 square miles think the island is to small then
I wonder how many of these signs are half on the road and half on the foot paths.
And the council are going to fine people for parking cars half on a path, so they should be fining whoever puts the signs half on the path. And the white boxes wightfibre have planted in the middle of the paths. No they cant do that as they gave permission to do it silly me.
Good test: can you get a pram or disability scooter past the sign without leaving the pavement? If not, don’t put the sign there!!
Unfortunately, that means that vehicles will probably hit the sign in the road or cause an accident trying to avoid it.

Thats not the point. Why can signs and and wightfibre boxes use pavements but cars can’t.
Theres been ate the junction near the old stag pub in lake iv seen at least five drivers swerve to miss hitting it but hay ho island roads can do whatever they want so no real problem gor them.
As usual, the signs are meaningless. When one comes upon “Diversion ->”, does it apply to everyone, to tell them to divert? Or does it mean “if you have been diverted, then go this way to get back on your original route”? One could finish up going round in circles.
At other times, one sees “AlphaZulu Road closed”. Where’s that? Does it apply to me?? Can I get as far as I need to go before I reach the absolute closure?? “Businesses open as usual” – what, all along the route?? Sometimes, a map is more useful, showing where the blockage is. Not everyone knows all the street names!!
Why not spend a bit of money on some paint and actually tell them the route to go to XXX, in this case, VACCINATIONS”.
If you’re going there, it’s this way, if you’re not, ignore it!! Easy.
