UPDATED: One person has been rescued by firefighters this morning (Friday) after a house in Brading became filled with smoke following a kitchen fire.
Crews from Ryde, Newport and Sandown were called to the scene near to The Bugle Inn on Brading High Street just after midnight when concerned neighbours dialled 999.
Four appliances have tackled the blaze in the terraced property – which originated from a microwave – and have successfully rescued one male from the building, who has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel have extinguished the fire and remain on scene damping down and ventilating the property.
The road was closed for a short period at the request of Police however has since reopened.
UPDATE FRIDAY – A spokesperson for St Mary’s Hospital has confirmed that the gentleman was treated by staff and has since been discharged.
